Personal Statement
My name is Wyatt Utt-Picking and I am a sophomore at Omak High School in Omak Washington. I have been playing the game of golf off and on since I was 10 years old. Golf became my focus at the beginning of my freshman year. I spent many hours working to improve my golf game so I could make the varsity team. My hard work paid off, after lowering my handicap from a 23 down to an 11, I not only made my school’s varsity golf team but was able to represent my school at the WIAA state tournament.
My goal is to continue the improvement of my golf game so I can golf at the collegiate level. I believe competing at the collegiate level will not only enhance my golf ability but will also support personal growth. The morals and experiences taught within that level of golf will help me build better qualities on and off the golf course. As a member of my high school golf team I strive to portray sportsmanship, a strong work ethic and contribute to a positive team environment. I am dedicated to representing myself, my family, my school and my community in the best way possible.
During the OHS golf season I practice 5-7 days a week and workout 5 days per week. In the off season I usually practice at least 6 days a week depending on the weather in the Pacific Northwest. When I cannot get on the golf course I focus my time on weight training.
I am considering Athletic Training or Kinesiology for my college major. I would like to stay involved in athletics after college and help other fellow athletes to follow their dreams.
My desired goals for college golf are to be able to represent my school on the golf team. Being able to travel around the country competing in tournaments would be a dream come true. I will continue to work hard on the golf course as well as in the classroom to attain my dream. As a student athlete I try my best to balance academics and golf. Time management and setting priorities help me keep this important balance between school and athletics.
I am open to playing at any collegiate level. That being said, I will continue to work toward this goal. I have always and will continue to have high expectations of myself. I take pride in how I represent myself, my family, my school and my community. I also feel it is important to give back, each year I volunteer with youth sports programs, this allows me to mentor and encourage future student athletes.
I hope this information has given you a picture of who I am both as an athlete and as a person.
Thank you for your time.
