Personal Statement
My name is Grant Boyson, I’m part of the class of 2018 at St. Mary Catholic School in Menasha, WI. I have been the number one player on the SMC golf team since my freshman year. I play in the Big East Conference which is division III. I have high accomplishments at school and my GPA is 3.93. I was inducted into the national honor society last year and I keep my studies a high priority. Unfortunately, I sustained an injury at the end of the basketball season that kept me from playing my conference season during my junior year of golf. Though, I wasn’t 100%, I was able to play in regionals and help get our team to sectionals while not being able to accomplish my goal of getting to state for my third year in a row. I stayed very involved with our team working with them daily. My goals for this last summer, before the injury, was to play in a lot of tournaments and prepare myself for my college recruitment; however, we decided it would be best to continue my conditioning and rehab to assure my total healing. I have continued to work on my short game but have been limiting my swings and tournaments this summer. I have decided to drop basketball in order to commit 100% of myself to my conditioning and up coming golf season. While it was extremely difficult to drop basketball my senior year, we are excited to see how far I can take my golf game, doing it year-round for the first time. I plan on continuing my conditioning and indoor golf program this winter and play in several tournaments down south in order to prepare myself for my senior year of high school golf in the Big East Conference and ultimately a college golf career while pursuing a degree in health and sciences. I started playing again in August. and won the club championship at Bridgewood golf course in September where I shot a 69 and felt great. I also played in the last 3 games of the football this season at wide receiver and kicker/punter. I am ready to put my injury behind me and look forward to my senior year in high school. I have a hunger to be successful and I will not accept anything less. I put forth 100% in everything I do. I strive to be the best student athlete and person I can be. I care about my team mates and their well being. Golf and my faith has helped shape my life and has taught me the values of integrity, respect, perseverance, responsibility, dignity, and discipline. These are the core values that I live my life by everyday. Golf has taught me how to manage my time and be successful at the same time.
