Personal Statement

My hometown is Pinedale, Wyoming; this is not the ideal location for an aspiring golfer because I face a six-month off-season with a 9-hole home golf course. However, I have learned that I must have a work ethic and attitude towards the game that is unparalleled; I must capitalize on every second of precious practice time that I have in order to fine tune my game and compete at a high level. Considering the ground is covered with snow for half of the year, I have become creative about other ways to improve my game. These include hitting into a net in my garage, watching my self-swing in the window, and chipping off of the carpet. My family has also made a commitment to traveling to Utah as often as possible to visit my personal golf coach and spend precious time on a challenging golf course. I would strive to be the best team and individual player I can be while representing your program, school and community at the highest level. I am seeking a college where I can earn a strong education while eagerly working to improve my game to propel me to the next level in my golf career. I look forward to the possibility of attending a school that enables me to be on challenging golf courses all year, and work with coaching professionals.

  • 70,63,69. I played well. The first day I put my self in many good positions but couldn't get the putts to fall. The second day I was 6 back and knew I needed to go low in order to give myself a chance on the third day. I had it to 9 under with 3 to play and finished bogey bogey par. That cut his lead to three going into the last day and I felt very good about my game and my chances. The last day he made all the putts he needed to on the front nine. I was playing pretty good but started to push too hard. Through 10 holes he had a 7 stroke lead. I got hot and went three under on the next three and he started to crumble. It was down to 2 with 3 holes to play and all of the momentum on my side. A stray tee ball on 16 caught a bad break that lead to a double and that was it. I finished 2nd at 8 under. I was bummed that I didn't bring it home but I was excited with the fact that I battled back after being down 7 with 8 to play.

  • Junior America's Cup - Team Wyoming
  • 7/27/14 to 7/31/14
  • Very challenging course!! 77, 77, 78 to finish 21st out of 71. I hit the ball well the first two days but just couldn't get anything going. The third day I did not strike the ball well off the tee but battled my way around the course! I could have easily posted a mid 80's number but continued to get up and down and save my score. Much respect for Shaughnessy!!!
  • Camp/Event
  • US Amateur Qualifier
  • 7/14/14 to 7/14/14
  • 78, 77 Course rated at 75 and played just under 7600 yds. Played OK on the first 18 but didn't score. Second 18 was after an hour weather delay and the winds were consistent 30+ mph. started out par, triple, double, bog, bog and was 7 over after 5 holes. Played 2 under the last 13 holes. I finished 9th out of 29 players from 8 different states. There were 9 players that did not finish their second round because the weather was that challenging.
  • Camp/Event
  • 92nd Wyoming Amateur Championship
  • 7/04/14 to 7/06/14
  • 69, 65, 69 I was 6 under thru 10 holes on the final day and had a 4 stroke lead (-14 with two others at -10) and I started thinking about winning instead of playing each shot one at a time. That thinking brought on a 3 hole stretch where I went double bog, bog, bog. Lesson reconfirmed. Full results found at http://www.ghintpp.com/wysga/TPPOnlineScoring/ResultsStroke.aspx?id=183&fid=0
