Personal Statement
Thank you for your interest. I have committed to Calvin University ACHA D1 hockey program studying Finance. My name is Tanner C. Dey and I love the game of hockey.
Born & raised in Anchorage Alaska, I understand & appreciate extremes. My goal is to play College Hockey while receiving a quality education. My college major interest & focus is Finance/Economics with Business and Political Science. My ultimate goal is to continue playing hockey at a high level after receiving my degree and possibly begin coaching youth teams. I am a Coaches player, a team player who understands that "team" is more important than the individual. I believe in strong character and that actions matter at the end of the day.
How am I different from other recruits? I was selected from 1600 applicants for a paid summer Internship with Alaska's US Senator Lisa Murkowski in Washington DC. During this time I shadowed the Senator, met World Leaders, Heads of State, and people who dedicate their lives to the success of our country. I have much interest and a greater appreciation for our countries leadership. I've received local and national academic honors and work hard to succeed and challenge myself on and off the ice.
I am a 6'1, 180 lb power forward. I have strong ice awareness, hockey sense, puck control, physical play, and am a battle winner. I am excellent at feeding the puck at the right moment, putting it in the net, & screening the goalie. I experienced my Rookie (2nd Rookie in points) Junior A T3 hockey season with a great group of teammates at the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings (#25) of the USPHL Premier, had 25 points in 53 games entire season (10G, 15A).
I played for the Wenatchee Wolves U18 T1 NAPHL academy-style program part of the Wenatchee Wild BCHL affiliate development program resulting in U18 T1 Washington State Champion & Regional Finalist. I was named to the ALL-NAPHL Academic Team and received the Wenatchee Wolves "2018 Academic Award" for Academic Achievement. I am a dual sport student-athlete who is also a Varsity State Champion & Club Regional Semi-Finalist Soccer Goalie in my off-season. I am also a 2 time Alaska State Athletics Good Sport Award recipient in both Hockey and Soccer. As mentioned above, I was also a 2018 High School Summer Intern for our Alaskan US Senator Lisa Murkowski in Washington D.C.
I am fully NCAA compliant and currently a 4.0 student (2 core on-line classes University of Alaska) during my Junior season. My high school cum GPA is 3.9 from 2 different States while taking NCAA approved high-level courses such as: AP Calc, AP Gov, AP Econ, PLTW Engineering, & Physics with extra math and science electives. I successfully balanced on-line school, Charter School, and 2 local high schools (WA & AK) altogether but most importantly earning a 4.12 Senior GPA in AP classes with Honors. I graduated with 30 credits. I am a member of the "National Society of High School Scholars" and I received the "Award of Excellence" from the National Academy of Future Scientists & Technologists. I am awaiting ACT score improvement from 4/13/19 and am scheduled for SAT again 5/4/19.
I believe in servicing my community and giving back to our hockey community by helping with local animal & youth programs in Alaska, Colorado, Washington and Wisconsin. I have coached multiple youth skill programs. I receive great joy working with the learn-to-skate and younger players. My high school hockey team won Municipal awards for community service & I am a local youth volunteer.
I hope you consider me a great candidate for your school or organization because I am a dedicated, hard worker and a great teammate on and off the ice. I know what it is to win and to lose. I've played Varsity Hockey and Soccer, been MVP, Champion, Arctic Winter Games Gold Medalist, State Finalist, Regional Semi-finalist, forth line, and last place. Character comes from all places not just first.
Thank you for reviewing my profile. I sincerely appreciate your time and consideration. I hope you consider me a great fit for your program and I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards,
Tanner C. Dey
