Personal Statement
I have been playing hockey since I was six years old. I started in a small house league that my dad ran. It was tough stepping on the ice for the first time. It was hard to stay on my feet and I didn’t know what to expect. As the years went on, I learned more about the game and I really started to take hockey more seriously. My parents have always stressed the importance of my grades. I am always being reminded that I am a “STUDENT- athlete” and that hockey won’t get you anywhere without good grades. Hockey may be a tool to open doors, but it’s nothing without academics.
Being part of a team has also helped to shape who I am as a person. It has helped me to develop communication skills, leadership skills and sense of community. These are the types of qualities that will help me on the ice, in the class room and in the real world. Each award or recognition that I have received for being part of this amazing sport has been extremely humbling, but I know none of it would be possible without the support of my teammates.
