Personal Statement
I am in 9th grade and 14 years old. I am a multisport athlete and play hockey, baseball, football, and track. In addition to the countless hours of practice I participate in cross fit four days a week. This has helped me improve my speed, quickness, strength, and agility. Hockey was the first sport I began learning when I was four years old because my parents were trying to find me a much needed physical outlet. This was my mom’s way of saying I was going to drive her crazy. I fell in love with the sport immediately and continue to love it more and more every time I step on the ice. I live in an area of the United States where hockey isn’t most kids’ primary sport, but I have been fortunate to work with a great organization and a committed, skilled, and passionate group of coaches who continue to help me excel. I also owe a lot to my parents who recognized my passion for this sport and have given me countless opportunities to grow and perform at a higher level. I’m pretty sure most parents wouldn’t be too keen on the idea of getting up at 4:00 AM and spending two hours in the car each day for a 5:30 AM travel practice, but mine do and I love them very much for that.
I have always been the kind of athlete that my teammates and other players look up to. I think this is partly due to my positive and fun attitude, strong work ethic, competitive instincts, and my constant inner drive to become a better player and person. I have also been told by my coaches I have strong leadership capabilities and continually set a great example on and off the ice. These are just some of the qualities I want to eventually bring to college hockey.
The dream of playing hockey at the next level, whether it be a Junior College, NAIA or a Division 1-3 school is very much alive in me. I continue to take my studies serious and wish to attend college pursuing a degree most likely in a science related field, although I haven’t ruled out other possibilities. Luckily, I have a little more time to figure that out since I will be starting high school next year. Continuing to play this game and represent my school while doing it would be an amazing opportunity that I would cherish for a lifetime. I plan on working extra hard over the next four years to help make this happen.
