John Quirk '15 Recruiting Profile

I am an 19 year old Defenseman from Quincy Mass. I have been playing hockey for 14 years now and it has become my passion. I, along with my two younger brothers, eat, sleep, and breathe hockey. I am a very hard working, and determined individual. I am one who likes to lead by example. Being a Co-Captain for my Boston Bandits U-18 team, I feel that leading by example is huge in a team's development, and play. With this I feel that my teammates look to me to help set the tempo for the game. Being only 5'9 and 170 lbs I'm not the biggest player on the ice. However, I play big in all situations. I LOVE getting into the dirty areas that some other players may not. While I battle in the dirty areas I like to get under other players skin. By getting under other teams skin, I draw a decent amount of penalties. So whoever I'm playing for tends to be on the power play a solid amount. So even though I'm not the biggest player on the ice, there are plenty of people that don't like playing against me. I also strive to play big in open ice, by breaking up plays, reading plays as they develop, and taking control of the neutral zone. I am a two way defenseman, so I play well at both ends of the ice. I love to get in on the fore-check whenever I get the chance. However, I don't forget that I am a defenseman. Whenever I get in on the fore-check, I get the puck down low, then cycle back to the point. Academically I am an Honors student and take all Honor level classes. I maintain a 3.3 GPA in my Academic classes, and I am 145 in my class of about 365. I am also a member of Quincy High School's National Business Honor Society.
