Personal Statement
My name is Jan and I'm a student-athlete from Zurich, Switzerland. I moved to the United States in August 2019, where I played my first 2 years in America for Elite Hockey Academy. Currently I signed with the Boston Hockey Academy.
When I was 4 years old, I always had to wait for my sister at the rink for her figure-skating practice. After her training, there were always 15 to 16 year old hockey players on the ice, which I loved to watch play. One day, while my sister went to the locker room, I went to the hockey coach and asked if I can play with them. Since 2009 I'm playing ice hockey which is my passion.
I'm a consistent, hard, and smart defenseman who loves to make quick and simple plays. My playing style used to be not hard and quick enough, which led to puck loss and less opportunities in the offensive zone for the team. The influence of my Coach helped me to change my playing style summarily. I started to be hard on pucks and on bodies, which I still do.
Hockey helped me to be disciplined because of my dream. It taught me to have no days off and to eat balanced meals, it helped me to understand that school is very important and if I don't do well in school, I can't play hockey, my parents didn't let me. It helped me to reach the goals I wanted to reach, because of the will and my determination. My coaches always told me that I can reach a lot because of my will.
After my hockey career, I need a college degree to work somewhere, of course. I would love to study technology/engineering or sports management. My next goal in high school is to finish my senior year strong with 3 AP Classes. There's still some difficulties with the English language, but I'm trying to learn as much as I can because I'm grateful and lucky to be a student-athlete in the United States.
