Personal Statement
Hi coaches, my name is Owen Gallagher, and I have been playing Elite hockey all 15 years of my hockey career. Right now I play on the Boston Bandits Premier team, I maintained a 3.7 GPA through high school, and got a 1350 on the SAT. My goals are to play for a strong academic Division 1 school / a NESCAC school. I believe what sets me apart on the ice is my vision, my hockey IQ, my skating ability, and my versatility. I always study the game and look for the small things that the best players do, and thus I am always improving my vision and hockey IQ. For 3 summers I skated with Graeme Townshend and worked on my skating, and still work on this drills in my spare time to help me improve my skating. When it comes to my versatility I have always looked to play all forward positions growing up, and now I can play any forward position. Off the ice, I think what separates me most is my perseverance. Being a smaller guy, the odds have always been against me, for people want the bigger players and that has never been me. This allowed me to learn to overcome failure and this is shown with my 4.8 out of 5 on the grit scale. Knowing what it is like to fail has allowed me to be a better teammate and leader, which is why I was an assistant captain of the U16 South Shore Kings team and was voted captain of my high school lacrosse team as a junior.
