Personal Statement

Hockey as been a main part of my life since I was 6. Growing up, I had two sisters who both figure skated, which brought me a love to be around the rink. Not only has hockey been a main part of my life, but more specifically being a goalie. Almost immediately when I started playing hockey, I started playing goalie. My team would rotate around goalies, so I would occasionally skate out. But eventually, some of the boys on the team wouldn't want to play unless I was goalie. It was then that I realized my true calling to be a goalie. And since I was 6 years old, I've never once complained about being a goalie. I've come to embrace my talent as being a goalie.

I think I have a true calling to be a goalie because I have an instinct at times in the net. I have times where I know the opponent will pass, and I notice patterns shooters will create while playing me. Another, and my personal favorite, reason why I think I should be a goalie is because I have a way that it seems that I can slow things down. Some shots and quick reaction saves, create situations when it's like I have a mechanism in my head that allows me to turn game into slow motion and make the save.

As a goalie I believe I am an understood leader. Before I played for my high school, I played AA travel. I played for the Allen Park Huskies from 2nd-9th grade. We played at the top division in our league, so we would have to play the best teams in the state. We weren't always the strongest team though, it was at those times where I would have a chance to let my team know that I could hold them in a game, and I would allow them to rally around me. My absolute favorite thing about being a goalie is that I have the chance to steal a win for my team. Everything around me could break down, and the other team could completely dominate the game, but I could shut the door and allow my team to win the game. My teammates around me have always looked up to me and told me that I could have a future in the game. While I progressed throughout my years with Allen Park, I would continually be recognized as one of the best goalies in the state.

I also excel in the classroom. I'm a motivated student, and I'm hardworking. I have maintained around a 3.5-3.8 GPA throughout my life. Math and Science are my two favorite classes, as I'm good with numbers. In the future, I want to have a job where I can do something surrounding business and allows me to create relationships with the people around me. I always get what I need to do done, and I hate when people on my team or myself use hockey as a reason not to do your homework. Getting into a good school is important to me, but I want to make sure that the school is a good fit for me.

Connecting the hard working in school to hockey, ask any of my teammates, I'm one of the guys that always does extra. It's important for me to become the best I can be, and to never stop improving myself. Building character allows me to be the best leader I can. I like to set a good example for everyone else on the team. Also, I like to leave a good reputation. I said character was important to me, so it is important that I make my teammates know that it's important that our team gives people a reason to look up to us.

Besides school and hockey, I have a huge appreciation for music. I love any kind of music, and it allows me to find a way to calm down. I don't just listen to music to listen to music, I use it as a tool before games. Before any game I plug in my headphones, and I use the music to help myself get energized for the game, and to help me visualize what I'm going to do during the game. My coaches have always told me that they appreciate the way that I prepare for games, and they believe that's why I can consistently put out good performances. I also have been playing baseball from a very young age, and this has allowed me to increase my athletic ability, but I'm way more committed to move on in hockey.

I would love to play at the collegiate level to be able to have a good education, while bringing pride to the school that I attend.

So please contact me if you have any other questions. I'm a very hard worker, and have the true instincts and athletic ability to be a goalie at a high level.
