Personal Statement
My name is Brendan Higbie and I play shortstop and 3rd base for the Marquette American Legion Blues team in Marquette, MI. I am 5' 11" and weigh around 165 pounds. I had a High School GPA of 4.12 and graduated in May of 2015. I am currently a full time student at Michigan Technological University and am looking for a school to transfer to play baseball during the 2016-17 school year. My GPA at Michigan Tech is 3.42. I have always had a busy schedule, and that has never stopped me from finishing my homework on time as well as volunteering in the community.
Although my off season is currently filled up with classes at Michigan Tech I am still finding time to work out and improve my baseball abilities. I have been playing baseball since before I was even able to play T-ball. From a very early age I dreamed of playing baseball in college and possibly professionally. I decided not to force myself into a bad situation at a school this year, so I am taking some time to way my options.
I have a major drive to succeed and to win. If I commit an error I take responsibility. I don't blame my teammates, but I understand it happens and move on. I fight every game to give my team a chance to win. My best abilities are making contact and putting the ball in play, and also my range and hands on defense. I get to and stop almost everything hit anywhere near me.
I have worked hard my whole life to be a better athlete and a better person. When I was younger I never made the all-star teams. My baseball season always got cut short because the coaches didn't think I was good enough. Instead of giving up or settling I kept working hard to improve and eventually became a key player on my Varsity team and Legion team. I am usually one of the first people at the field to get a few extra stretches and some extra throwing in. I then stay after and help rake the field after practice with a few of my teammates. I am a hard worker and very dedicated to proving that I can play collegiate baseball.
