Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Conner Lee.  I am seventeen years old and currently a senior in high school.  Through my four years attending high school, I have maintained a GPA of 3.62/4.0.  This has included taking Honors classes in Spanish, English and Math.  I was invited to join the National Honor Society my Sophomore year and have been on the school Honor Roll every semester.  I am a very dedicated and task focused student. My future goals and plans, besides continuing to play hockey, is to further my education.  I would like to pursue a degree in the Criminology with a focus towards Forensic Investigation/Profiling.

I consider myself a well rounded athlete. Besides playing Varsity hockey, I also have played Varsity baseball and Varsity golf for my high school.  I have furthered my training by attending a weight, circuit and agility training at a private gym with a personal trainer for the past eight years. In the hockey off season, I have attended many high end selective hockey camps and participated in various Elite programs. These camps include Shattuck St. Mary's, Eagle River, Heartland and EXOS, all to which were the top skilled grouping.  The Elite programs I have played on have included, Southern Minnesota Elite Majors, U16 Reebok High Performance and Prospect Hockey League U16 Team Minnesota, where I was the lead team points holder.  This year, I have been nominated to tryout for the Twin Cities Tier 1 Elites High School Hockey League.  I plan to continue my off season development by participating in the EXOS program, attending the Eagle River camp, playing with the Southern Minnesota Elite Majors and playing twice weekly with the returning Juniors/College hockey players in the area.

My greatest hockey strengths include my skating abilities, my ice awareness, play making abilities, being coachable and a positive attitude. I have very good lateral movement in both my forward and backwards skating.  I feel I have above average speed even when skating with the puck.  I see the ice well which allows me to react to a play as it develops, helping me to make the correct offensive or defensive play.  I center to the top line on my high school team and I am also on the top power play and penalty kill units. Having good ice awareness allows me to also protect myself from taking big hits or putting myself in a tough situation. I also unselfish when it comes to the offensive side of the game.  I pride myself on setting up a teammate for a scoring opportunity by making good clean passes. As important as my skating and my other skills are to me, I feel to be a complete hockey player you need to have a good attitude towards coaches and teammates.  Through the years, I have learned that the best way I can help my team be successful on and off the ice is to be caochable.  To me, that means to do what I'm asked as a player, be a good listener and always be respectful to my coaches and teammates.

I have been voted Captain for the upcoming season, by both my fellow players and coaches, because of my leadership qualities, driven work ethic and fellow teammate attitude.  Among my teammates and classmates, I am one of the most well liked not only as a person but as a team member and leader. People and coaches say I strive to be positive, supportive and helpful to all of those around me.  My coaches have told me over the years that I am one of the less selfish players and least conceited talented athletes.  I am loyal to myself, my friends and teammates.  I am honest, hard working and not a complainer.  I prefer to walk my own path than follow others regarding my morals and values.
