Personal Statement
Hello, my name is Jarett Mari and this is my story. In late December, 1997 I was born into a hockey family. Both my dad and sister played on state championship hockey teams. My dad went on to play college hockey and coached for many years. We were also a billet family for three years and our players went on to play college hockey. Their hard work and sacrifices inspired me to do the same thing. We have spent countless hours watching college and junior hockey games.
At the age of four I started my hockey career in Fargo, ND. If I wasn’t at an organized practice, you could usually find me and a few buds at an outdoor rink. Some of my early accomplishments that I achieved include breaking the all-time Fargo Flyers Squirt scoring record and playing on a state championship pee-wee team. In 2011 I was invited to the 14U USA Development Camp in Rochester, NY.
In the spring of my freshman year, we decided that in order to pursue my dream of playing college hockey, it was time to leave home and play at an advanced level. I have been playing for Omaha AAA the past two seasons at the 16U and now 18U level. In May of 2014 I was drafted by the Bloomington Thunder of the USHL. In the summer of 2014 I was again invited to the USA Development Camp in Buffalo, NY. I have also recently signed a tender with the Amarillo Bulls of the NAHL.
I would describe myself as a two way player with speed, who can put up some decent points and be tough to play against. I enjoy blocking a shot or winning a corner battle as much as scoring.
Off ice, I take pride in getting good grades. I am currently ranked in the top 10% for academics in my class. I hope to pursue something in the medical field with my college education. When away from the rink or school I enjoy golfing, water sports and fishing at our lake cabin, and of course hanging out with my hockey buds.
