Personal Statement
My name is Sam Whitehouse. I am 6’6” and 235pounds, and I play defense. I may be a big player who uses his body to his advantage, but that is not all that I am. I have very good skills with the puck – one of my coaches once said “it is rare to see hands that good on a frame that big”. Another big asset to my game is my vision of the ice, and also my hockey IQ. During games, I tend to keep pucks out of the net, always having the best plus/minus of any defenseman on my team. I am a very calm and collected player, who does well under pressure, and never chokes during big moments of games. I am also a good player to have in the locker room, as I tend to boost morale and get players pumped up. Currently I am working every day to improve the weakest part of my game, my footspeed.
I am currently going to Horace Greeley High School, which is one of the most competitive public schools in the nation. I am a hard working good student, and I have never shied away from the more challenging classes, instead of taking easier classes, and getting a higher GPA. I enjoy challenges, which is why I chose to take one of my favorite subjects, AP Biology. Horace Greeley is a difficult school, but the students who graduate from there are well prepared for the challenges they will face in college.
I also like to help others around me, which drove me to join the fire department in my town. The team dynamic that is at the fire department makes you feel like a big family, and this is an environment I love to be in.
I currently work as a camp counselor for Pro Ambitions Hockey Camps, so that I can give back to the sport I love. I also love working with kids, which helps me at the camps.
