Personal Statement
My name is Michael Kosina. I am a Senior at Chaminade High School in Mineola, New York. I am a right winger and the Captain (which was voted upon by my peers) on the Chaminade Varsity Hockey Team. I am also a right winger on a travel team, The Long Island Edge. I have enjoyed every second on both of these teams and love all of my coaches and all of the players. My priority is my education. I have learned not only skills on the ice, but also important life lessons. I am very committed to hockey and have given up other sports and made many other sacrifices in order to play. My parents have also sacrificed a lot in order for me to play and I am very thankful for that.
Not only have I worked hard off the ice focusing on my education, but also on the ice. During the season I average being on the ice six out of seven days of the week, this includes about three games per week. I have grown enormously as a player and have had a great coach who knows the game inside and out. I fit right into any system and understand all aspects of the game. I have also grown in my skill level by working hard on and off the ice to develop my skill set. I believe I have much more room to improve my game. I look forward to developing my skills further.
I hope to continue to develop as a player at the collegiate level. I am dedicated to not only making myself a better player, but also in contributing to building team skill and chemistry. I have always been a team leader on and off the ice wherever I have played. I have always been either a captain or assistant captain on both teams. The main purpose of my game is to do whatever fits my teams needs to make us better. I look forward to future experiences and many more friendships to come at the collegiate level of hockey.
