Personal Statement
It has been my desire to attend an excellent college that could prepare me academically for the challenges I will face down the road in my career. While I am not 100% certain yet what field I want to pursue, I have a love of American History and Business. I have been playing competitive hockey since the 2nd grade and my dream is to play hockey in college at the highest level possible. Even though playing a competitive sport at the college level will require commitment and a great deal of my time, I feel the discipline that comes with playing hockey will make me a stronger, more well rounded person.
I feel my strengths on the ice include being a physical presence through hitting and my defensive play in blocking shots. I don't hesitate to get in the crease and screen the goalie when we have the puck, and I take pride in unselfish play through getting assists. I also take pride in winning the majority of my face-offs. My coach named me the team Captain for the second year in a row on my U16AA team because he feels I can lead our team on and off the ice.
I feel that my drive, determination and work ethic separate me from other players. I try to take these personal qualities and apply them to my academics. My parents have always been there to support me and let me know that anything less than my best isn't acceptable.
Hockey isn't as popular where I live and I realize that a lot of colleges don't look to Northeastern Pennsylvania for hockey players. However, I know we have a competitive team and I am proud of our success. We always play like we have something to prove, and I know I would bring that attitude with me to the college level.
