Baden Powell '22 Recruiting Profile

They say every individual has a different path to get where they want to go.  In my life, nothing could be further from the truth.  I have always been the smallest defenseman at tryouts, from my U15 year - 4'11" 83lbs up to my 1st year of junior hockey (2022).  While understanding I have limited control on my size and weight, I've adapted my game to speed and finesse.  Throughout my elite hockey playing path, I've been viewed and told I am too small to be an impact defenseman and to potentially try a different position.  But this is the position I love, so I 've had to learn how to persevere. Not only overcoming the mental objections but some physical ones as well.  A laceration to my quadricep requiring 14 stitches (2016) and a broken wrist  (2019).  The ups and downs, modified workouts and extra off-ice training, a regimented nutrition plan and working extra hard in practice to earn my playing time, has helped me overcome these setbacks.  The results were being named Captain of our Notre Dame Hounds Team (2021) and now earning the opportunity to play Junior hockey. My goals are to continue to increase my hockey skills through the junior ranks and then to commit to a University with exceptional academic and athletic programs that will be a good fit for me and the University. I believe I have the character, work ethic, talent and leadership skills to make an immediate positive impact on a school's program, both on the ice and in the classroom.  Courtesy of those who have supported and encouraged me along the way, I would be an asset to your School, Team and Community.
