Personal Statement

I have been playing hockey for about 12 years and right when I started playing I knew I would love this sport. My college goals are to of course play hockey. Every hockey player wants to play college hockey, just some don't put in the effort to get to the next level. What makes me a good candidate for their team is I'm a leader. I like to help kids out on the ice if they make a mistake or are just not playing one of their better games. I am different from other athletes because I have a motive, I want to take hockey to the next level. On the ice when I mess up I understand the coach on what he is saying and I work on that until I get it down. I like when coaches are strict in a way, not too laid back. Just the feeling of messing up and having a coach tell you what to do helps me as a person on the ice and off.

What makes me different from a lot of other players is I am a very active person, always working out and just outside. Also yes someone could be a really great hockey player but academics are a big part of it and I carry a 3.2 which to me is a pretty steady GPA.

I was the starting defenseman for Team South Dakota Tier ll 1a national champions in April 2014 in Reston, Virginia. I had a total of 7 points in the tournament in 5 games, With 1 goal and 6 assists. I recieved the number 2 star in the first elimination game. There is a video on file of the games at USA hockey National championships. Winning this championship along with the Varsity state championship made 2014 a true year to remember in my career. I am looking forward to progressing onto college/junior level hockey to bring my championship experience to your team.

2015 was a big year for me with Rushmore Thunder as we finished first in state league play and dominated the state championship series. We made it to the quarter round in St. Louis at the national high school tournament which was a good experience to gauge our level of play and see the areas we could improve. This year point wise was the best year for me( 12 goals/23 assists) Also my plus- minus was way better.(+34) we as a team scored over 110 goals in 18 league games. I have been working out a lot more and i think that that i have improved my quickness this passed year and should help a ton this summer.

This year in the 2015-2016 season, my senior year, i was one of only 3 seniors to return and the only starter. The previous 2 years i had been with a group of players (5 went to play juniors) and was very interested in doing the same but after attending a NCAA Div. 1 camp at Michigan State and listening to coaches there i made up my mind to go back and play my senior year for my association and my team. Coach Novak awarded me with the "C" and we worked hard all year with mainly a team consisting of freshman and sophmore players we were able to finish second in points at our S.D. State Tourney and only missed the championship game because of an overtime loss. I was proud of my teammates and they showed me how a team can come together without that "superstar".  i am ready to move on to a competive level that will challenge me to get as good as i can be.
