2015 HighlightsPersonal Statement
Hello, my name is Benjamin (Ben) Koester. I am 20 years old and currently reside in Appleton Wisconsin where I graduated from Appleton West High. I graduated with honors, was a member of NHS, and regarded as a hard working, dedicated student. During my four years in high school I spent 3 years on the Appleton United Varsity hockey team, and also played in the Wisconsin Elite Hockey League (WEHL), which is a Tier 2 AAA program in the fall for 4 years. Always regarded as someone with above average speed and a work ethic, I used those skills to maximize my performance on the ice which resulted with me being on the first penalty kill unit each year, and towards the end of my junior and senior year was put out in Power Play situations as well. My senior year I was also chosen to be an assistant captain by my teammates and coaches. This past season I played my first year of junior hockey primarily with the Dells Ducks in the MNJHL but later in the season was traded to the Maple Grove Energy in the MNJHL. I am currently playing with the Rochester Ice Hawks in the NA3HL. I was traded there from the Peoria Mustangs in the NA3HL earlier in the year. My goal for this season is to play hockey at the division 3 or ACHA D1 level while also furthering my education to reach my ultimate goal of becoming a successful physical therapist. I am a very coachable player that will provide a great work ethic and ledarship qualities. I will come to the rink everyday with a lead by example, hard working attitude, and am willing to do whatever it takes to make my teammates and myself as successful as possible. - Traded from the Peoria Mustangs to the Ice Hawks. Through 15 games have 1 assist and 22 PIMS. Used in all special teams situations and looked upon as a leader of the team

- Played in 20 games. Recorded 4 goals and 4 assists. Was used in penalty kill situations and was regarded as one of the hardest working players on the ice

- Acquired in trade from Dells Ducks in late January. Played in 7 games, recorded no points and had 18 PIMS. Was used in every situation (PP, PK, etc.), looked upon as someone who lead by example. Season ended early with shoulder injury.

- Off season weightlifting/skating 2011-2013

- Trained with Kirk Olson, a former player in the USHL and former U.S. Speedskater. Intensive training 4-5 days per week through whole summer. Included weightlifting regiment, off ice sprints, powerskating and speedskating instruction, and on ice skill development. Trained alongside players currently playing in the NAHL and USHL.

Coach Hughes was my highschool assistant coach and has been pushing me to my limits since the day I met him. He played junior hockey in the NAHL and then went on to Larwence University and also a year of Pro in Sweeden. Skills mainly focused on are explosiveness, endurance, and puck skill work
