I started playing lacrosse in seventh grade because baseball wasn't really a good fit for me. Since then, I've never looked back. In my eighth grade year, I decided that I wanted to play lacrosse at the collegiate level. Now, as a current junior at Poway High School, I have been a two-sport athlete, playing both football and lacrosse. In lacrosse, I have played goalie at the varsity level since my freshman season, and this year I became the starter. After our fourth game this season, I was elected as one of the 2 captains of our team.
I also played football as a freshman and sophomore, starting on the varsity defensive line in my sophomore year. Unfortunately, that same year, I received a severe concussion playing football that put me out of school for five months and homeschooled me for the rest of the year. I did not play football this season and have been focusing on my grades and on honing my lacrosse skills at the varsity level. My injury has given me a unique perspective on school and athletics and as taught me the self-discipline to keep up on my grades on my own and to take more care of myself. The way I see it, it has better prepared me for college life.
I understand in being a college student-athlete, being a student must come first and I work hard in the classroom to maintain a high GPA. I know that being both a good student and a good athlete will best prepare me for college life and beyond, and I look forward to the challenges that college will bring.
