Personal Statement

My primary goals for my junior and senior years in high school are to excel both academically and in sports.  I am driven to earn a scholarship and attend a reputable university.  Playing sports at the next level would be a dream come true for me.  I understand that these goals require a lot of hard work and commitment, and I am up for the challenge.

I take pride in both my dedication to lacrosse and football, and in my versatility as a player.  I have played many positions in lacrosse and football, and I have excelled in all of them. I attribute my success to my quickness and speed, as well as my strength and determination.   I am a fierce competitor, and a team player.  I make instinctively good decisions on the field and, whether I am credited with an assist or a goal, my ultimate purpose is to help my team win.  This drive for success is illustrated in my work ethic during the off-season, and in the classroom as well.  I strive to stay fit, and improve upon my skills, year round. Likewise, I take AP and honors courses to challenge myself, and to prepare for college.

As a college student, I will take full advantage of the education I am receiving.  I will value the skills and knowledge gained from my professors and classmates.  But, through high school sports, I have learned life-lessons from coaches, and fellow players as well.  That is another reason that I hope to contribute to a college sports team.

I am a duel sport athlete in high school, but lacrosse is my first choice to play in college.  Over these past 5 years, I've grown very passionate about the sport of lacrosse.  The fast pace of the game appeals to me, and it is something that I have found much success in as a quick, left-handed player.  It would be my honor to contribute to a college team.

Thank you,

Ryland Clay,  Class of 2016
