Personal Statement
Lacrosse has shaped me to be the person I am today. When I started 9 years ago I was not very good but I was young, athletic and determined. I had to work hard at practice and at home to develop the skills I needed to be successful. I spent hours outside all year round and in any kind of weather shooting, playing wall ball, and working to improve.
I am part Native American and the tribe my ancestors came from played lacrosse and in many ways this was a motivation for me. I have connected with the sport on many levels. I use lacrosse as an outlet when I am bored or stressed. Lacrosse gives the charge of adrenaline and intensity that comes with competitiveness. It is also calming influence in my life and I can find my focus through lacrosse.
Lacrosse has also helped me to develop my competitiveness into leadership qualities. A few years ago I decided to step in to assist coaching my younger brother’s team when no parents stepped up. I worked my schedule so I could assist his team during their practice and then run over to my practices. I have assisted with this youth team as they grew from a timid U9 team into the robust U11 team. I have worked with the same boys for six seasons including coaching during games and tournaments when my schedule allows. It is important to me to give young players someone to look up to and I work hard to set a good example on and off the field.
The drive I have developed on the lacrosse field has carried into my other sports and my academics. I excel on the soccer field and work hard to maintain a 4.0 GPA with a full schedule of honors and advanced classwork. It is my desire to continue improving and play lacrosse for an elite college program. I have achieved my goal as a freshman in highschool to make the Varsity squad. I plan to work hard and continue improving with my classmates for the next 3 years.
