Personal Statement
For most of my life I watched my mother work diligently to earn a college degree, ingraining in me the value of education. The choices she has made in life have taught me to be a self determined, hard working, and passionate young man. Ever since I can remember, I have envisioned my college and baseball career as a time for academic, athletic, and personal growth.
My collegiate goals are to obtain an exceptional education while earning a masters degree in sports medicine. From there I will pursue a medical degree and ultimately become a sports physician. I have always been fascinated with the human body, more specifically the raw ability of an athlete, and on the ball field is where I plan to spend my next 40 years.
What I bring to the athletic table is my knowledge of the game, my ability as a leader, and my skill. I not only know the importance of being a strong baseball player physically, but I am also continuously increasing my knowledge about the game itself. In order to increase my knowledge of the game I volunteer as an umpire for my local little league and baseball academy. I study plays and read statistics, constantly breaking down plays from a fundamental standpoint as I watch each play progress. Most importantly, I gain knowledge from those who are more experienced than myself.
I have grown into a strong leader, and have earned the respect of my team as a captain. I have seen first hand the importance of being a positive influence on my teammates and as a member of a college and athletic program, I realize the value of a good character both on and off of the field. In my eight years of playing baseball, I realize that attitude and love for the game can be instrumental in earning wins. My strong desire and drive to succeed in both the game of baseball and in life spreads throughout any team I play with.
I am an extremely determined and passionate player who has worked on all sides of the game, from my swing and defense to the mental aspect and preparation and grind for the game. I pride myself on maintaining both mental and physical health as well as self awareness. As a catcher, I pride myself on my quickness and body/arm strength. As a batter my strengths include plate discipline, ability to hit pitches where they are pitched, and contact and power. As a base runner I am aware, swift, and smart.
I am a well balanced student athlete who consistently strives for personal growth and higher achievement. It is my belief that I will be a valuable addition to an already exceptional college and athletic program.
