One of the things I hear most consistently from coaches is how I'm very coachable. When I receive feedback from players or coaches, I try to use that feedback to improve my playing. I've been playing for 8 years and throughout that time, people will tell you I'm one of the most enthusiastic players on the sideline cheering my teammates on. I really am passionate about lacrosse. That’s why not being able to play due to a shoulder injury has been a real challenge. Not only have I obviously missed playing, but I missed out on recruiting opportunities entering my senior year. I’m glad to have my surgery out of the way and am excited to start back on the field soon. I have never shied away from challenges, and am excited for the opportunity to play lacrosse at the college level.
I believe my performance as a student has paralleled my athletic performance. As you can see from my transcript, my grades improved quite a bit each year. Freshman year was a bit of a struggle, but I learned a lot. Importantly, I learned several tools to help get better organized and I became more invested in improving my grades. By Junior year, 2 important things happened. Not only did I no longer need my IEP, but I was in a position to challenge myself by taking an AP level course. The fact that my teacher and parents expressed concern that the course would be too hard actually motivated me even more to do well, and I was able to end my second semester with an A. Another academic accomplishment I am proud of is the Euler math award I won last year. Honestly, this award shocked me a little, since Math is one of those subjects where I feel the need to work harder than the average person. However, my teacher explained how it was my perseverance that made me deserve the award. She also praised my enthusiasm for learning and willingness to put in a lot of hard work. These are traits I’ll admit I am really proud of. I hope these traits will help me with college, both in the classroom, and hopefully, if I get to play college lacrosse, on the field.
