Personal Statement
When I was four years old, my uncle gave me my first set of sticks. He was an All-State lacrosse player and wanted me to play lacrosse. I became quite good even for such a little kid. When I turned five I attended a week-long lacrosse camp, and was given the Coach's Award for my skills and athleticism. I really enjoyed playing lacrosse but I also loved playing baseball. For three years I played both sports even though their seasons ran simultaneously. When Little League started to get more competitive, I had to make a choice. I chose baseball, and put down my sticks for the next five years. When I didn't make the Modified Baseball team in 7th grade I was disappointed, but the next day I tried out for the lacrosse team and I made it! I had forgotten how much I loved to play lacrosse and realized I should never have given it up. To catch up to my classmates, my mom signed me up for as many camps and clinics as possible. By 8th grade I made the Junior Varsity team, and in 9th and 10th grade I played Varsity.
Despite my great love of lacrosse, of course earning my degree is most important. I haven't made a final decision on a major, but I know I want to study something that I am passionate about. I have a great respect for nature, and the environment, so I am leaning toward the environmental sciences. I also really enjoy American and World History.
I want to continue to play lacrosse in college because I feel like I'm just getting started. I suppose you could say I want to make up for those five years that I didn't have a stick in my hand. I believe what sets me apart from others is my vision and my ability to make plays. I am also very fast and very agile. I believe I will make a difference on a college team!
