Personal Statement
I am a competitive multi-sport athlete, at 6’ 0” and 180 lbs. who finally found my passion, Lacrosse. Even though my lacrosse career is only 3 years young, I have been playing multiple sports since I was 4 years old. My sports career includes 7 years of football, where currently I am the quarterback of my schools JV football team, 2 years of basketball, 7 years of travel baseball and 11 years of in-town and tournament street hockey.
I hung up my baseball glove when I was 13 to try lacrosse, and once I did, I have never looked back! It is one of the best decisions of my life. Lacrosse combines my skills and knowledge of football, basketball and street hockey into one sport and has allowed me to use one of my greatest talents, aggressiveness. Since I made the switch during a summer lacrosse league, I have played for a U15 town travel team and have been a Varsity starter on my high school’s team as a Freshman. As a Freshman, I led the team in ground ball pick-ups and was one of the team leaders in caused turnovers. As a defensive team member, I believe that that both of these statistics helped the team achieve the first winning season and also a 50% decrease in goals allowed per game from the prior season.
In the summers of 2014 and 2015, I made the highest level team (2017) for the Braveheart Select Lacrosse team in Moorestown, NJ. I also was asked to play this summer in several tournaments with the 2016 Braveheart team. This summer I was selected to play and represent New Jersey in the 2015 Brine National Lacrosse Classic in Richmond, VA. I was selected as an All-Star Defensive player at the Brine National Classic. These teams allowed me to play in multiple tournaments and showcases where I have gained invaluable experience playing against high level competition and in large stadium settings. I also had the opportunity to attend 3 individual college showcases. These tournaments and showcases introduced me to the expectations and the level of commitment needed to be a collegiate student athlete. I have been identified as a standout 2017 Long Stick Mid (LSM) and Defensive player and was automatically placed on the highest team for the upcoming 2016 summer tournament season for the 2017 Braveheart Select team.
I believe that my ability to play defense with a long pole, pick up and control ground balls and read and intercept passes can be attributed to years as a center in street hockey. I have both the understanding and ability to play offense and defense and to make quick transitions. On the field is where I get my greatest rewards. I always strive to work with my teammates and lead by example. I endeavor to be the best, and understand that with anything in life there is always more to learn.
My goals for the short term include; playing box lacrosse, training workouts with my high school team as well as concentrating on my academic studies. In the long term, I am looking for a college that will provide me with both a solid education as well as a competitive lacrosse career. I am open to most colleges since at this point I have not narrowed in on a specific major. I am interested in schools which are on the smaller side and would prefer to stay on the East Coast.
Off the fields, I volunteer for different events at my church and at my former catholic grade school. In addition, I volunteer as a buddy and on a weekly basis help a special needs child learn how to play street hockey. I have also volunteered for the American Cancer Society Bike-a-thon. I mow several lawns, babysit and referee our town’s street hockey games in my spare time. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
