Personal Statement
Hello, I am from Matt Block from Barrington Rhode Island and I have a strong passion for Lacrosse. I started out playing in Lake Oswego Oregon in 4th and 5th grade and played for a select team which gave me experience with Canadian players in the 5th and 6th grade. While in Oregon I also completed a 5 year task of getting my black belt in Tae Kwon Do, which taught me discipline and life morals. I moved again to Long Grove, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, which is where I played my 5th-7th grade years. This is when I grew my experience in the game and also fell in love with it. I played for four teams at the short time of me living there, one of them being the amazing program of True Lacrosse. This travel team taught me how to work hard and learn the aspects of playing full time, all year around Lacrosse. I also played football until I moved to Rhode Island. When I moved to Rhode Island I experienced differences that built my character as well as I grew my knowledge and social skills.
I played Lacrosse as soon as I moved to Rhode Island in the fall of 2012 for Boston Laxachusetts. This program, another great travel team, was teaching me life lessons at the same time as I was thriving in their atmosphere. I played on this team up until the spring of 8th grade when I had broken my collar bone at the start of my spring season for Barrington Middle School Lacrosse. I played for Mark Pressler (Mike Pressler's younger brother) as he was the coach for the Middle School team. He taught me how to play as hard as I can and that I could push my body to much further limits than I could have imagined. Once I broke my collar bone, it made me hungry to play Lacrosse. When I came back from this injury, I came back in my freshman year of High School and played for two more travel teams. This year, my sophomore year of High School, I have learned how valuable Lacrosse is to my lifestyle and future. I play now for Barrington High School as well as For the RI Bulldogs program out of Bryant University with Coach Mike Pressler as our head coach. His experiences with Duke, the USA team, and Bryant make him an outstanding coach. I have always wanted to play for the best programs and strengthen my experiences for my future in Lacrosse and college. I have been wanting to play college lacrosse in college since I started playing. My dream is to play for an amazing Lacrosse program in college. Not a day goes by that I don't think about my future of Lacrosse. Working at becoming better everyday, whether that is going to the gym or practicing, makes me more confident on fulfilling my dream of playing at the highest level that I can. I believe that obtaining a degree from College in some form of business related major and continuing to play Lacrosse will continue to help me grow and fulfill my dreams. Learning to compete while a member of a college team, and work hard in school are all great life skills that better prepare me for life after school.
