Personal Statement
I am interested in pursuing a degree in engineering and playing lacrosse in college. Like many kids in the South, I am a relative newcomer to lacrosse, having grown up playing baseball and soccer. I have developed a passion for lacrosse and work hard at improving my game. I have attended numerous camps and clinics. I hit the wall and practice my shot on a daily basis. I watch as much college and professional lacrosse as possible to improve my knowledge of the game. I am interested in playing in college at any level that will allow me to continue playing the game I love. I pride myself on being a hard worker, a team player, and and student of the game.
I started as a midfielder on the junior varsity my freshmen year and got into a few varsity games as well. I moved to attack for my sophomore year, moved up to varsity early in the year, and started on varsity for most of the season. In my junior year, I was a full time starter on varsity, playing primarily at x-attack. I lead the team in assists, finished second in goals, and lead the team in points. I was awarded the Mr. Offense award by my coaches and was voted second team All-Region. In presenting me with the Mr. Offense award, my high school coach said that my discipline and knowledge of the game allowed the team to run plays that we had not been able to run in the past. This summer I am playing club with the Midland Mavericks in several competitive tournaments. I will be competing at the IMG Nationals in the fall with a club team, as well as playing box lacrosse, and in outdoor 7 on 7 league.
Academically, I have earned a Scholar Athlete award during every year of high school by making the honor roll during my spring sports season. I am part of a high school magnet program focused on math and science. I have a particular interest in aviation and am strongly considering majoring in aeronautical or aerospace engineering. As part of my magnet program, I will spend 200 hours performing an internship in aviation, primarily with the pilots of the private air fleet of SCANA Corp. and the operations and management personnel at the Columbia Metropolitan Airport. My dream school for college is one which will allow me to pursue my passions for lacrosse, engineering, and aviation.
