Personal Statement

Growing up, my family and I have always been in a hurry to get from one place to another. Being raised in a household where the lifestyle involves soccer is not always easy.  Due to the reason that I as well as my brothers were all involved in soccer, our family was running from one field to another. However, with the help of my parents, they always made it possible to live this hectic lifestyle. As the oldest of four it is important that I set a good example for them because it will be my footsteps that they follow.  With this said, I plan to be the first in my family to go college so that my siblings know that it is possible. As immigrants to this country, my parents have to work extremely hard in order to financially sustain our family. Knowing this gives me the strength to want to succeed because I know that my parents have worked so hard in giving me a better future.

I started out playing soccer at the age of five. Since then, I have only had love for this beautiful sport. I have been on very competitive teams. These teams have had the chance to travel and win against opponents who were best in the region and nation. Playing with these teams has been an incredible experience because they have been ranked number one in the state many times. Now I am currently playing for Real Salt Lake Academy. Playing with this team has opened many opportunities for me for the future. Real Salt Lake Academy is the only academy team in Arizona that allows us to play other academies around the country. Since many of our games are out of state, I have gained much experience on different fields. Although I have a love for soccer, I know that school is also important. While I have been away playing, I have also worked hard to maintain good grades. I have always put my school before soccer because I know without soccer school can take me far. I plan to attend college after I am finished with high school, however I hope to also be playing the sport I love.  My dream has always been to play first division soccer at a university while studying to become a physical therapist. I hope that in reading about me you have gained an insight to the person I am as well as my aspirations and goals. I also hope that in knowing more about me this you will inspire you in helping me achieve these goals. Thank you.

                                                            Sincerely,

                                                                        Nestor Daniel Serrano
