Personal Statement
I am taking a GAP year after graduating this year.
I started playing soccer when I was three years old and fell in love--there is nothing better than the freedom to run around an open field with a ball at my feet. As I grew older that love stayed with me. I have been very lucky to play with the Houston Dynamo Youth Club since I was 8 years old. Then in high school, I decided to go to Europe to advance my training. I spent a semester at Intersoccer Academy outside of Madrid, Spain, before COVID hit. Then I trained with the Talentprojekt at the Deutsches Fußball Internat soccer academy located near Munich, Germany for two years. This past year, I took the opportunity to trial at different clubs across Germany and earned a spot on the U-19 team at Rot Weiss Koblenz with the incredible benefit of training full-time with their 4th division men's team. it was an incredible experience allowing me to grow as a young man and soccer player. I decided to take another year to grow my skills and will be trialing again for the upcoming season.
I pride myself most on my work ethic on the pitch. I am constantly working on my skills so that I can take my game as far as I possibly can. I lead by example, and I try to be very vocal on the field. I always give 110 percent and push my teammates to do the same. I don’t get down or frustrated easily. No matter the game score, I play as hard as possible. I am very coachable and am open to suggestions by coaches or teammates.
I have typically played as a central defender where I use my physical strength to control our end of the field. I have the speed to run down long balls and strikers. Recently, I have also been playing as a defensive wing as well where I use my speed to push forward on offense and after, get back on defense.
Off the pitch, I work just as hard. I take academics seriously, and I currently have a 3.9/4.0 GPA. In my free time, I have refereed recreational youth games and helped out with programs that enable disabled children to play soccer. Ultimately, I want to attend an academic college that pushes me to grow personally both as a student and player.
