For me, soccer is more than just a sport. I began playing when I was 6 years old, and ever since then the game has developed into a passion that continues to grow indefinitely. It is my favorite thing to do, and hopefully I will be able to maintain a life-long relationship with the game of soccer. Not only is it enjoyable, it has taught me valuable lessons that are applicable both on and off the field. Through soccer, I have been able to practice commitment by being there for my team as well as myself. In school, on the field, or in daily life, I will finish what I start, even if it is a challenge, because I know that you get back what you put in. I do not look for things to be easy, but rather worth doing. Leadership has also been very important in being a strong team player as well as setting a positive example for my team and everyone around me. Whether it be making decisions or setting a standard through my hard work ethic, I always strive to bring the best out of others as well as myself. One of the best attributes I have gained from soccer is determination. Through the game and my constant desire to become better, I have learned to set a goal, never give up, and do anything it takes to achieve it. My current goal is to play soccer at the collegiate level at a school where I can also receive a quality education.
In the outset of my soccer career, I was a forward. Then as time progressed, I played in a defensive role. I believe this enhances my skill as a goalkeeper, because as a former field-player, I am mentally out on the field with the ball. I believe the goalkeeper has the best vantage to see plays form, and should take the role as the defensive quarterback. From my perspective I can see the game unfolding and can anticipate the ball's next move. Because of this, I am constantly communicating with my defense and organizing them accordingly.
Another one of my strengths is my quickness and an outstanding vertical leap. If the ball does find its way past the first line of defense, I remain ready with the mindset of doing everything possible to keep it out of the back of my net. Because of this, I can confidently trust my instinct, quick reactions, and exceptional jumping ability to get the job done. I love nothing more than making a great save and contributing my part to the team.
Over the years, soccer has become a love of mine that I remain committed to; committed to becoming the best player and person I can be, and to use the game and its lessons to inspire others to become the best that they can be.
