2016 HighlightsPersonal Statement
Wayne Gretzky said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.” I am a goalkeeper and I prefer to say “I save 100% of the shots I don't let you take.” I discovered this principle as a 16-year-old promoted to a U18 USSD Academy team. Competing against players who were two years older, faster, stronger and taller, I could still successfully compete by reading, organizing and leading my team to prevent shots. My leadership as the youngster on that team led to a steady decline in the number of shots on goal and a precipitous drop in our goals-against average.
In addition to leading my team and anticipating game strategy and tactics, I also differentiate myself based upon my commitment to excellence and work ethic. Outside of games, I am committed to training, game study, weight training and fitness work to constantly improve. This work ethic carries over to other activities as well, including 6am classes, guitar lessons, service projects, rock band performances, and soccer training. I am an Eagle Scout and have completed a steady AP course load. Having a commitment to excellence and the dedication to work hard allows me to achieve success across a wide variety of activities.
