Personal Statement
My name is Gabriel Gamez and I am a 5’11” left/right outside back from Los Angeles, CA. I attend Harvard-Westlake School in Studio City (Ranked #7 on the Most Challenging Private Schools by Washington Post America 2013). I will graduate in 2014 and this will be my second year as a starter on the varsity soccer team . Outside of school, I play club soccer for Santa Monica United FC (Coast Soccer League, Premier). I have been playing soccer since the age of five and have been the team captain of my club teams over the past few years.
My SAT superscore is a 2070 (Math: 710, Critical Reading: 660, Writing: 700). My current GPA is a 3.88 and I am working hard to strengthen my GPA. In addition to soccer, I am involved in my school’s Robotics Club, Black Leadership and Awareness Culture Club, Boxing Club, am a leader of the Latino Culture Club, and am a part of the Saint Cecilia Church Youth Group. I am an aspiring computer programmer and am looking for a school with strong programs in that area and a rich soccer tradition. I believe that my strengths as a soccer player are my passing skills, physicality and grit, my field vision, and the competitiveness in me that drives me not to let anyone beat me.
I am a hard-working student athlete that has high aspirations in assisting in establishing a strong soccer program at the college that I decide to attend and in becoming a successful engineering professional in order to provide resources and give access to STEM careers to members of my community.
