Personal Statement
Hello!
I am Samuel Meza, a student-athlete in Whittier, California, and I would like to thank you for checking out my site! My passion for soccer is unbelievable, a major factor in my life ever since I can remember. Growing up in a house full of soccer fanatics, I have been playing for about ten years now, and this is my sixth year playing in high level club competition in the Coast Soccer League.
I am 6'00'' and 155 lbs., and growing! I have been the starting Varsity goalkeeper since my Freshman year for Whittier High School, receiving All-League accolades in both my full seasons. I have been noted by many coaches, from the premier club level to high school, for my full focus in every game-situation, talking and giving direction to my players every second (resulting in many lost voices after practices and games!) My sisters have played soccer in NCAA Division II and NAIA Division I schools (Seattle University, it was DII at the time, and Loyola University New Orleans), and it has been my goal to make it to, if not exceed, that level. My dream is to play and compete at a high collegiate level.
While I love Southern California to the fullest, I have been inspired by my siblings to travel afar to new places of the country, preferably to the other side on the east coast. I have traveled many times to this region and have absolutely enjoyed it, with the complete change in its natural scenery, although I definetely see big cities, such as NYC, as a great choice! Still, the Pacific side and the grand ol' South seem like wonderful places to attend college! I am interested in a high level academic education, along with great competition in soccer, regardless of school size. I am a Christian young man, a part of the Friends' Church, though any school, public or private, is an excellent option for me! Also, I believe that I will qualify for some aid when I apply for the FAFSA.
While I work rigorously hard on the soccer field, I put a lot of my effort on my education. I am an AP student, and as of right now, I wish to pursue a career in the medical field, possibly becoming the first doctor in my family! As a result, my desired majors will revolve around a pre-medical program, most likely in biology my freshman year.
My most important goal athletically is to play at the highest level I can, even if that means playing as a reserve in my early years. I promise to do my best on the team, contributing in every way possible, and will do everything I can to make it to the starting position. Still, any Division program is an opportunity I will not turn away from and I will consider all schools!
Lastly, I again thank you for your time and interest in me. I hope I can become an option in your search for a goalkeeper!
