Personal Statement

Hi, my name is Joshua-Damian Kuykendall, but I prefer to be called Josh. I am seventeen years old and I play goal keeper for my club team and center back for my high school team.  I enjoy playing goalie but I will do whatever it takes to make the soccer roster.  One of the reasons I enjoy playing goal keeper is I feel that it is an important position on the field, a captain if you will.  Therefore, I feel I can handle the pressures and tough decisions that may come up on and off the field.  I feel that I'm coach able, adaptable, hardworking and determined to succeed beyond high school.  I am interested in studying sports medicine and or kinesiology in college as well as continuing my soccer career.  Academics and athletics, in that order, are important to me and I take them serious.

  • Notes Lucas Champenois: Josh, I thought technically you were a good gk. Your set position is wide though which limits your mobility laterally. GK Technical Shot Stopping/Diving You have the ability to make some quality saves. If you can improve on your footwork and setting before the ball is struck, you will become more consistent with your shot stopping. Make sure you stay big and dive at a positive angle. By diving backwards, you do not cover the ground necessary to become an elite shot stopper. Crosses and High Balls You showed that you have a lot of potential when it comes to dealing with crosses. A lot of dealing with crosses is a mental game and you showed that you have the confidence to come for balls in your area. Make sure you aren’t getting caught in between. Be decisive and be a leader in the back. Make sure your starting position is correct and when you attack the ball and you attack it at the highest point. Also, when going back on a ball make sure you don’t get caught back pedaling, but rather cross over. Distribution You showed that you could hit a really good ball from the ground and air. You can always become more consistent. Make sure you work on receiving balls back to you from your defenders (1 and 2 touch). Work on a variety of punts (sidewinders, drop kicks, and punts). Also, when you are throwing the ball out to a defender give them directions after they receive the ball. GK Mentality Confidence You showed that you carry yourself with confidence. Don’t allow that to stop in a game. It can’t be 45 minutes or 60 minutes, it has to be 90 minutes. Even if you make a mistake, you have to continue to be a confidant Keeper. Focus/Concentration You did a great job of being focused all camp. Goalkeeping is a position where you cant let your mind wander and you could tell that your concentration was on point. NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
