Many kids play soccer as a hobby or for fun, but playing soccer has been an important factor in shaping who I am today. I began playing competitively at the start of my parent’s divorce. With so many things changing in my life, soccer provided me with a constant that helped me get through this very difficult time. It allowed me to grow as a player and a person.
My strengths on the field include good communication, quick reflexes, and success in one-on-one situations. Separate training sessions with goalkeeper coaches have improved these skills, as well as my commitment level and passion for the sport, and specifically for my position. In addition to my athletic ability, I also bring a strong sense of leadership to my teams, in order to bring out the best in all my teammates.
I apply this passion and commitment from the soccer field to my academic success as well. I am part of the Individualized Honors Program (IHP) and currently have a 3.9 GPA while taking only Honors and AP classes. My goal for academics is to have over a 4.0 GPA after my senior year, as well as to continue to challenge myself academically by enrolling in AP courses throughout my junior and senior years. I also plan on taking multiple classes at the local community college in order to challenge myself as much as I can.
I understand that it is a privilege to have the opportunity to excel both on and off the soccer field, so I try to give back to my community as much as possible. Through my membership in four service organizations at my school, I have been able to volunteer at local schools and charity events to help as many people in my community as possible. I am also working with the Passback Soccer Foundation to collect soccer equipment for children in underserved communities who love the sport as much as I do.
I am looking forward to college as an opportunity to reach my greatest potential as both a soccer player and a student, and am very thankful that I am being considered as a possible college athlete.
