Personal Statement
My name is Marshall Shea and I am a 6'2" 180 lb Goalie from Aurora, Colorado. As a junior, I was able to work alongside my team as the sole-goalkeeper and take our high school team to the state playoffs for the first time in six years. This playoff run, although short, was one of my favorite soccer experiences I have had so far in my career. This club season (spring 2020) was cut short due to COVID-19, but before this we were able to attend an invitational in Phoenix, Arizona, which ranked high as far as a great experience I have had with a soccer team. As the starting varsity goalkeeper for the past two years, an unexpected benefit of this was the opportunity to learn and grow as a leader by mentoring the underclassman goalkeepers, who had less experience but were eager to work and improve.
I play soccer year-round between spring club season, summer workouts, fall high school season, and winter indoor league, as well as lifting every day in the morning before school. Through the years, soccer has instilled in me a demand for hard-work as well as bolstered my communication skills, both of which helped me qualify for DECA nationals for the past two years. I feel this commitment and dedication to improvement would make me an asset to any collegiate team, and can only grow as I continue to learn, grow, and improve throughout the next year.
