Personal Statement

My name is Sergio Lopez and I am a Junior at Denver School of Science and Technology.  I currently play Varsity Soccer at North High School in Denver Public Schools since my High School is a Charter School who isn't registered with CHSAA.

I feel that I am a good candidate for your soccer team because I am a very talented player who has been playing soccer for over 12 years. I started playing soccer at the age of 4 and got involved because I had always admired how my dad played soccer.

Through soccer, I have learned that I am a leader.  I can help people around me not only on but off the field as well.  My goals for high school are to achieve a GPA higher than a 3.3 and get high scores for both the SAT and the ACT so that I can be accepted to a college of my choice.  My goal for college is to obtain a Business degree (still not sure which kind yet) in order to be successful in life.

I have overcome many obstacles in my life, beginning with the divorce of my parents while I was in Elementary School. I know I'm not the only one with these types of family situations but I certainly don't let that be an excuse for not trying my best at everything I do.  I will be the first in my family to attend college.  I am the oldest of three siblings and need to lead by example.  I will attend and graduate college so that my younger siblings can follow in my steps.  I have great organization skills which have helped me with many things in my life such as keeping up with assignments in school along with my summer jobs.  These organizational skills are essential not just during my school years, but I know it is a great skill to have in general.  I always put my best effort into everything I do, in the classroom I am not much different, and I put my best foot forward when it comes to learning. When I do not understand an assignment, I reach out to my teachers for additional support even if it requires tutoring that is held after school.  I try my best to get good grades and grow as a leader every single day.  I like to be challenged and am currently taking two AP classes, and am planning on taking on more AP courses this upcoming year.

I am very excited to show my academic achievements along with my athletic skills and show how much I have to give.
