My name is Sawyer Meehan and I’m currently in the middle of my Fall season for soccer. My height is 6ft 1, and I weigh 190 pounds, and still growing. I'm looking forward to the next 10-12 months. I think it will be a great time for me to continue to improve and identify a college program that views my abilities as worthy to help their team. I lead my Varsity team in scoring in both my Freshman, and Sophomore year earning all-league honors. Scoring goals is fun for my high school team, especially because I’m a defensive player for my ODP and Club team. Because our team is so small I play where I’m needed most, and can make the most impact. I hope this Fall I can lead us to some more wins, and post season playoffs.
Once the High School season ends - I will transition to the CT ODP team and my club team Everton America on the '01 NPL team where I am team Captain. For both teams I play left defensive positions either center defense or outside left back. I have a very strong left foot which is used to take corner's, goal kicks, free kicks, but I also have touch with my passes to switch fields and help launch offensive attacks. I have been lucky to be coached by current college coaches such as Marty Walker (Yale Staff) who have shared with me that my size, physical play, calmness on the ball, and technical game put me in a great position to be a key contributing player in the college game. One of my favorite parts of soccer is being on a team. I like the family environment of joking and pushing for wins and championships together. I have had a goal of playing college soccer for as long as I can remember. Taking the next step to play in college is only part of the journey. I work every day on fitness, skills, cardio, speed, passing, etc. so that when I get there I’m ready to contribute and compete day 1 – not sit on the bench and watch. My parents have pushed me hard to understand that grades are the first priority followed by soccer. My hope is that in college I can take both school and soccer to the highest levels.
