Personal Statement
My name is Allan Joyner. I am a senior at West Shore jr/Sr high school. West Shore is a "school of choice" that offers an advanced academic curriculum. The majority of my classes are honors or advanced placement classes. I will be graduating with an AP diploma. In addition, I will be completing the AP Capstone Seminar. I have been West Shores starting goal keeper since my eighth grade year. My team won the state championship in 2012 and were district finalist in 2013 and 2014. This year, we were regional champions and FHSAA semifinalists. All of our district games this year were shutouts. We did not allow a single goal by our district opponents. I was named athlete of the week by Florida Today/USA Today in February 2015 and honorable mention all -state in 2014. I was selected to be South Brevards all star goal keeper, however could not play due to the flu.
I also play for Brevard Soccer Alliance. I have played for this premier team since U-13 and excel in the role of the starting goal keeper as well as the captain of the team. My team is ranked 10th in the state of Florida, 18th in the Region and 77th in the Nation. My coach is Colin Prest and my private goalie trainer is Mike Pottier. I have been receiving private goalie training for the past four years. I am 6'4 and weight 185 pounds. My height is certainly an asset for a goal keeper and despite my height, I am incredibly fast and agile.
I have been playing soccer since I was six years old. My hope is to play soccer in college and later professionally. From an academic standpoint, I would like to pursue a degree in medicine Although I am also interested in engineering. I believe West Shore has provided me with a solid academic foundation to excel at the collegiate level.
I believe I would be an excellent candidate for college soccer. I have excellent athletic, leadership, and interpersonal skills. I am motivated and very eager to grow both athletically and academically.
