Personal Statement
My name is Braden Lumabao and I am a senior at the western-most high school of the United States. I will be graduating from Waimea High School in May of 2020. Living in Hawaii has a big influence in who I have become as a person. Some how with small communities and dwindling populations, many cultures live and flourish here; so I had to be knowledgeable and open-minded to thrive. I became a multi-sport athlete as a child but of all the sports, my passion was soccer. In my youth, my brother's burning desire to play rubbed off on me. I did not flourish on my first HYSA (Hawaii Youth Soccer Association ) Team as they did not take me seriously. After couple of seasons, I switched teams because I wanted to learn the fundamentals to play at a higher level. Finally, this coach nurtured my willingness to learn and opened opportunities for me. He introduced me to off-island teams who showed me tactics and sharpened my knowledge skills. With more doors open, more coaches and mentors refined me to be a deadly player. My Maui United Coach gave me many chances to play on big stages such as the Far West Regionals in Idaho, The US Club Nationals tournament, Vegas Cup, Vegas Showcase, and I also guest played with Albion 2001 team during the Albion Tournament. It was an honor to play and experience these opportunities to showcase my self-worth. I was an all-star cross country runner with a mile time of 5:35. Being a player on different Soccer Club Teams, I was able to play and learn different positions. On my off-season, I play against adults who are way stronger, faster and that have played college, semi-pro, and all over the world. Most of my Coaches felt I am a great attacking midfielder, but I am great player anywhere midfield and up. I am a great possessor of the ball whether that is individually or playing possession ball. I am a tenacious player and I am always first to the ball. I am ready for next level and the next challenge.
