Many people who have grown up in Hawaii joke about island fever and lack of entertainment options. Fortunately, I found my entertainment and passion in soccer. From a young age I was very fortunate to have parents who emphasized the importance of sports and being a team player. Over the years, I have played football, basketball, baseball, and rugby, but the sport I excelled at is soccer. Currently I play on the varsity team at my high school and serve as the team captain. Being a player requires precision and skill but being a captain requires the skills to motivate my team members. Last year, we had the pleasure of winning the title of Division II state champions. As I enter my senior year, my goal is to excel at my favorite sport and to bring another title to my high school. I am also helping to mentor the new and current teammates and help to improve their skills and character growth. I have learned from my coaches that it is not always about me but it is about the team and how we can work together, encourage and build each other up.
Starting out in my high school years was a challenge and I was not as focused on my grades and academics. I have risen above my obstacles, having started out strong in my senior year, bringing up all my grades and continuing to do well. Acceptance to a college or university and having the opportunity to play college soccer will help me to achieve my future goals and prepare me for my future career in government service or the private sector.
I would like to attend a college or university that will push me beyond my limits. The ultimate goal for me is to make my family and friends proud as well is the people in my community. In Hawaii we say "Imua" which means to move forward to be number one.
