Personal Statement
I have been playing soccer since I was 4 yrs old. I currently play for the Cedar River Soccer Association in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. My team (the 96-97 Boys' Premier team) won the Iowa 2012 State Cup Championship; we finished 2nd in our bracket going 1-1-1. I have been a leader on the team assisting 3 of 6 goals scored in 3 games during the State Cup tournament and also scoring the winning penalty kick in the semifinal game that allowed my team to advance to the finals. My primary position for this team has been outside midfield. I have also played on the Iowa 1997 Boys ODP team for 5 years. My primary position with this team has been outside defender (on either side). I am a member of the Kennedy High School varsity team. I was one of five freshman to make the team and the only one to start every game of the season including substate. In spring 2012 (our school season) our team advanced to the substate finals. We followed up on that performance by placing 4th in the state tournament my sophomore year, climbing as high as 14th in the nation. Over my 3 year high school career, I have made 3 all-conference teams and 2 all-metro teams. I was also picked for 2nd team all-state my junior year. My primary position on this team has been outside defender and midfielder.
My goal is to play at the college level with a competitive and successful program. I look forward to being able to contribute to the program as early as my freshman year. I am a hard worker as evidenced by the number of camps I have attended and teams for which I have played. I frequently train in the off-season. I have participated in the the IMG summer camp for the last 2 summers and guest-played with their U16 Developmental Academy team at the IMG Cup in December 2012; we won all 4 games. I was also invited to play on the IMG Select team in December 2013 in the IMG Invitational. I plan on attending as many college camps as I can this summer (2013).
Although playing soccer professionally is my ultimate goal I plan on attending medical school after college in order to become a cardiologist. Earning a soccer scholarship to a competitive school will help me attain both my academic and athletic goals.
I also do well in school which is evident by my 3.85 GPA, my ACT score of 32, and my numerous honor roll awards. I understand the importance of being a student as well as an athlete and have set high standards for myself both on the field and off of it.
