Personal Statement
I’m a big kid with big dreams. Unfortunately, I’ve learned that sometimes obstacles play an important role in achieving my dreams. In the past five years, my grandma (who was my best friend) passed away from ALS, my parents divorced, I was hit by a car, and I broke my shoulder blade in my first varsity season. While each of these events were difficult to overcome, they shaped who I am today. I am stronger, more positive, don’t take anything for granted, and know that I’m responsible for my own happiness and success.
I’ve played soccer since I was five, and at one point or another, I have played every position. My strengths on the field are distributing the ball short and long, winning headers, winning tackles 1v1 with a striker, and communicating to/ leading my team. I was fortunate enough to play high school varsity for three years, and also being able to compete at Nationals the past four years, on both Campton United and Sockers FC (two premier Midwest teams). I have traveled extensively for tournaments, showcases and camps and enjoy the competition all over the country.
I know how important it is to be fit and ready to play at all times. Even in the off-season, I continue to lift, run, and train on the ball consistently. I also understand nutrition plays a key role in being a great athlete; I eat “clean” to the point where my friends laugh at me. Overall, I know I have the work-ethic, determination, motivation, attitude, and skill to compete at a high level collegiate program. It is important to me that I attend a school with a top level business program as well as a competitive soccer program.
