Hi, I'm Evan Dettman, I am a senior in high school and play on the Chicago City Soccer Club u18 Boys Blue team. I have also played on the Lane Tech Boys Sophomore and JV teams. I chose to not play my senior year due to COVID-19 concerns (high risk family members).
I created my NCSA account so that my ability can be properly expressed to colleges. Ever since I started playing soccer competitively, it has been a dream to play soccer after my club years. I have never considered soccer as a way to receive an academic advantage as my passion for the sport is genuine. While I am a Manchester United fan, I try to watch as many premier league games as I can and analyze the tactics of many managers. I also try to play soccer daily through my lunch time and after school. I personally feel that I live the sport in many ways, so extending my career into college is a top priority.
I believe that I have the ability to impact teams when I join them. After joining Chicago City Soccer club (at the age of 11), I was put in the lowest of the three teams. I immediately impressed my coach, and within three seasons I was promoted to the highest team, a team that played at a state level and against top opponents in the Midwest. More recently I have joined the Chicago City Super Y team and the Lane Tech Sophomore and JV teams which I was a consistent starter on for both last seasons. I believe this reflects my ability to quickly understand tactics and transition into new teams. While I have the height and weight to play a conventional defensive role, I play as more as a progressive minded defender. I have the ability to play long diagonal balls with high accuracy and precision and am able to progress up the field like a midfielder if needed. As a defender I am not necessarily aggressive, but I can read the pitch, position myself properly, and can make composed tackles and interceptions. I also show leadership qualities on the field and am constantly talking in a positive, constructive manner. I also have the academic ability to maintain grades, so grade regulation will never be a worry for me.
My main goal from this application process would be to find a college that suits me academically and competitively through soccer. Since this is my goal, working with coaches professionally and expressing my ability will be top priorities throughout this application process.
