Personal Statement
If I have learned anything from sports it is that the athlete you are on the field doesn’t define who you as a person, but the person you are helps influence the athlete you are on the field. I am naturally a competitive person as well as a natural leader. I would give you the shirt off my back unless I’m on the field then I play to win.
I immediately fell in love with the beautiful game when my friends invited me to play pick up soccer with them in the summer of 2014 just a couple weeks before the world cup started. I was a natural dribbler, and quickly picked up different shooting and passing techniques. I became so fascinated by the game that I remember spending my entire summer with a ball at my foot from pretty much 7:30 am when I would get out of bed, I would start dribbling around the house, until 8:30 pm when it got too dark to play. If I wasn’t outside playing soccer or doing chores I would record and watch every game I could to learn as much as I could about tactics, player movement, and player positioning. I’m proud to say that I still have that same love for the game.
I learned the importance of hard work when I became a multi sport athlete in 7th grade. Since then I have earned a reputation in my community as an extremely hard worker with an engine that never goes out. From the first day I joined high school soccer I have made it a goal to stay after practice every day for at least an hour to improve an area of the game that isn’t as strong for me as other areas are. Usually I’m able to convince another field player as well as one of our goalkeepers to stay after with me, so I have a target to aim for if I’m whipping in crosses as well as a keeper in goal to shoot on.
My academic plans going into college are to major in either athletic training, physical therapy, or complete the required science classes to become a chiropractor. Athletically I’m looking for a good program with a high competition level for both the opponents we face and the school’s squad. I want to play soccer in college because I love the sport and I’m a major competitor.
