Personal Statement
My name is Ethan Carpenter. I am a 17 year old senior at Leonardtown High School. I live in St. Mary's County Maryland and have been playing soccer since I could walk.
I started kiddie kick when I was four and played six seasons of rec soccer before I moved up to a rec plus team. That was my first team that I tried out for. I played for the St.Mary's Soccer rec plus team for four seasons. After four seasons I was asked to try out for the U13 travel team. In the Fall of 2013, I began playing for the SMS Dynamo Classic team, and I played three seasons of travel with that club. I made the decision not to play the fourth season of travel to ease myself into the pace of high school academics. This decision was difficult for me. During my absence from travel soccer, I wanted to maintain and improve my speed and agility skills, so I secured a personal trainer.
In addition to working with my trainer, I trained with two travel teams, St. Mary's United and Calvert United. I work with the two teams during the week, and lift weights and run on my own over the weekend. During the summers, I condition with the Leonardtown High School soccer team, and attended the UNC Charlotte college soccer camp with the team. I tried out for the LHS soccer team, but did not earn a spot for the Fall 2014 season. Over that season I was still playing travel ball with SMS Dynamo Classic through the winter season. During the Spring 2015 season I played with an U18 rec team and was scouted by the King's Christian Academy varsity soccer coach. I turned down the offer of a partial scholarship because I didn’t want to leave my high school academy program of study, and wanted to continue to train and condition for my home high school team.
During the summer of 2015, I continued to condition with the LHS soccer team. Towards the end of the summer, I tried out and did not earn a spot on the team once more. To maintain my fitness and improve my endurance and strength for soccer, I made the decision to run cross-country. In December 2015, I tried out for the Maryland ODP team and was called back for a third tryout then didn't earn a position on the team. In the Spring of 2016 I tried out for a Calvert travel team and was successful at making that team. I played center back for them the whole season, every minute of every game and scored twice from my center back position and had 3 assists from corner kicks.
Currently, I have made an EDP (Eastern Development Program) team U17 Chaos which is located in Calvert county Maryland. I also have made the U17 ODP (Olympic Development Program) team for the upcoming year. I played varsity football this past fall in 2016 as the kicker and continue to be on the varsity indoor and outdoor track and field teams where I throw the shot put, discus, and run the 100m. The Fall of 2017, I am currently playing linebacker, defensive end, kicker, and punter for the varsity football team.
