Personal Statement
Soccer is my first love. I play other sports throughout the year – notably basketball and track – but I play soccer year round, on a competitive travel team, my high school team, and a variety of summer, indoor, and futsal leagues. (I also work as a referee for recreation and travel leagues, when there are no opportunities for me to be on the field myself.)
I was one of two freshmen who made the high school varsity soccer team, and received the “Rising Star” award for soccer at the end of the year. Since then, I have played virtually all of every game during both high school and club soccer seasons. Along with my ball-handling skills, my greatest contribution to my soccer teams is leadership on and off the field. Whether as Center Back (my main position) or Center Midfield, I have always had an ability to see the field as a whole, make split-second strategic decisions, keep my teammates on the same page, and direct my team. Because of this ability I have been made captain of both club and high school varsity teams. As captain, I keep the defense organized and provide advice to my teammates during stoppages that they respect and follow.
I have a big foot and excellent control of the ball, and take all of the goal kicks and free kicks behind midfield for my travel and varsity teams. (I was also recruited to be the kicker for the Varsity Football team.)
I am looking for a college program to which I can contribute through my leadership and my organization of the team on and off of the field.
