Personal Statement

One of my soccer goals was to be able to win a state championship. And in 2021 I was blessed to accomplish that goal with The Potters House High school from Wyoming, Michigan. Now that I have accomplished that goal, my second goal is to be able to play soccer at a higher level. And that is to be able to play for college.

I've been playing soccer my whole life. I started playing club soccer when I was 4 years old. I played for a Hispanic club called Aguilas de Grand Rapids in Michigan. I played with that club until 5th grade (10 years old). Then I choose to play for Crew (before it was changed to Midwest United). I played with Crew for 2 years and then switched back to Aguilas in 8th grade. After that, my coach retired and that was the last time that I played in club soccer. That doesn't mean that I stopped playing soccer completely. I was playing soccer in little Hispanic leagues and with friends. Then my freshman year came. I've been playing varsity soccer my whole high school career. My freshman year we won our conference title and lost in the District final and my Sophomore year we lost both conference and District final. My junior year we able to add 5 trophies to the school trophy case. We won a small tournament, conference title, district title, regional title, and state title. We ended our season with a record of 24-3-1. After we won the state finals, it was only right that I returned to play for club soccer. So I choose to play for Michigan Power and I'm currently playing for their 04 team.

I think I am very different from a lot of high school soccer players who are trying to play college soccer. For starters, I am a Christian. I was able to accomplish all these goals because of God. There are two things that I want to be known for when it comes to soccer: the first one being that I was a rough player who used every ounce of my energy in practices and in games and the second one which is the most important, I am a believer of Jesus Christ. Another thing that makes me different from other players is that I am mentally strong. During the regional finals, the whole game, me and my friend, who is an African, were getting yelled racial slurs. I wanted to fight(physically), but I knew if I made that choice the whole game would change. So I kept quiet and kept playing. Until half time, the whole team huddled up and I decided not huddle with them. I had to be alone because I was so angry to the point where I started to cry. My teammates saw this and we prayed and went into the second half. I was still angry but that made me play so much better. We finished the game as regional champions (score: 1-0). Thirdly, I am a small guy, but I make sure to use all my body when it comes to taking the ball from the opponent. That is my advantage. I am not afraid of who is in front of me. I asked some of my teammates to describe me, they all said fearless. Another thing that makes me different is that I am a very loving person. Once I am in a team, I consider you as my brother. That means I will be there for you, pray for you and will always have your back. Academic wise, I tend to lose track of my grades when I am in the middle of the season. During the tournament run, my grades weren't doing so good. I wasn't failing but I knew I could do better (most of all my grades were C's). Once the season ended first thing I wanted to do at school was to get those grades back up. And which I did. I know that I will have to change those habits if I want to play for college.
