I started playing a little later than most, so I was at a large disadvantage from my peers right off the start, but I didn’t mind much. I kept on playing and I scraped by on the team I was on. It wasn’t until I got cut from the top team that I received my first wake up call. I still remember the thought, “There’s no excuse you can give here, nothing you can say, you didn’t put any effort in, so why would you expect anything from it”. That was the first time I really understood that to reach a goal, you must give your all, which is what I did learning and improving not just on the physical and technical sides of the game, but also mentality, strategy, and leadership that are just as important. The time I put into improving myself as a person and player made me realize my love for the game, and I hope to not just receive a strong education that prepares me for my future, but to also play the game I love while doing it.
